Show AllThe LED lights help me find the USB outlets during the dark. I would only make the space bar deeper so I can sit my 27" IMAC on top. Make it deeper and keep the LED lights. But if you're in doubt on whether to remove the LED, then find a way to turn them off for your customers that are complaining.
Please tell me how to disable these LEDs on the front other than covering them with tape. Cause I will cover them with tape.
I gave away my V1 and got a V2. V1 was 5 stars awesome. This new one has super bright white LEDs on each side above the USB ports, which are completely unnecessary. If I hadn't enjoyed a version without the LEDs I might not be so harsh, but this is a spiteful angry review :-)
I got a version 2 and I love it so far.
I'm just here to echo what's been said time and again in these reviews with the two biggest issues.
1) It needs to be deeper to really conform with the iMac and Cinema Display bases.
2) The lights on the front are really bright and always on. I might actually try to disable them in the future because they are that distracting. They don't seem to serve any purpose other than saying it's connected. I'd rather there be no light than the current setup.
3) The MSRP is definitely really high for this item but I didn't pay MSRP. I got it for a good deal less and for the price I got it for, it was well worth it.
I'm surprised that 1 and 2 above were not fixed in V2, hopefully in V3. That said, it's a wonderful product.
I have 2 issues which have been stated on previous reviews which I concur with.
1. the depth of the bar needs to be a bit deeper.
2. This is my big one... I can not turn the lights off. There should be 2 switches on this device. 1. on/off - power 2. on/off - lights This almost made me return it, but since it took almost 2 and a half months to finally get it... I kept it. I did contact customer service on this issue as well!
My monitor has no height adjustment I needed to raise it just a few inches. The sleek profile plus USB ports drove my decision to purchase this. It works great. The base of my monitor is round and extends about an inch past the edge in front and back, but is well supported and it doesn't look bad. I connected the microUSB jack in the back to a USB port on my Dell laptop, and then plugged my keyboard and mouse into the Space Bar, essentially turning it into a mini "docking station" for my laptop. Makes moving my laptop much easier, as there are less cables plugged directly into it. It connects my Android phone to my laptop in USB mode, and it also appears to charge the phone, although the charging indicator took a minute or two after connecting before it appeared.
Aesthetically, this is a nicely designed product that melds seamlessly with Apple products. It seems solid and stable, and the port access locations are a nice convenience with an iMac.
But a few improvements are needed.
I agree with the comment above that an on off switch would be good, both to save energy and to enable the lights that glow out of the ports to turn off in a room at night.
The depth of the bar is just short of the base of an iMac, leaving a good half inch on its flat base unsupported and looking aesthetically truncated compared to the overall iMac stand with its full arc.
One other crucial note. While you can synch an iPad through the port, it will not charge it. Had I known this, I never would have purchased this item. Almost a fatal operational design flaw that defeats the purpose of easy access ports for one of the most oft used connections. 6 useless ports, and I'm still connected around the back of my computer. Too bad.
On and off switch is needed for green minded people. We dont like energy vampire when computer is off.
So I wouldn't buy it for that reason.
Second wobbly if the surface is not perfectly flat.
The imac feet covers certain space but the keyboard deck is two linear length where it can become wobbly. And does not look earth quake safe.
I would make it earth quake resistant. by adding optional back cusp that cups the backside of the imac feet and keyboard deck and test out design that can at least handle 5.0 earth quake that's often seen in Los Angeles and Arizona. It looks flimsy on earth quake. and show on video if a kid kicks the table the keyboard and imac is on with football to see if it would handle that well on impact. Most real life situation when imac is also used by children. Does yours have any chance making the imac to fall because poor design how it interface with the imac?
Can you afford lawsuit from those accident one in a million chance?
Mine just arrived and it looks great! One thing that might be worth considering is adding a headphone jack at the front. I know that leaning around the back of the iMacs is a pain to add headphones.
Very happy with the finish and look of the product! Fits perfectly with my setup.
Just got mine set up, charged my iPod, and it's exactly what I was hoping for. I already had 3 of the 4 iMac USB slots filled, and even though all 4 are filled now, I've got 6 free with the Space Bar. The best thing for me is, you can so easily plug in any USB cable in the front with no effort, no more turning the iMac around or dealing with rearranging the desk just to plug in my iPod of phone.
